For those that have read my other blogs, you’ll know I’m somewhat of a list writer and organise myself that way!
Today, here is a super quick Top 5 list to refer to, which include my best post-mastectomy recovery purchases that I couldn’t have lived without in the immediate days and weeks after my surgery, here goes:
Top 5 Post-Mastectomy Must Haves
- Recliner chair – 100% the best decision I made was to hire this chair! Now, this was actually super expensive to hire, so I appreciate this was a huge luxury and may not be possible for everyone. So if hiring a mobility chair isn’t in your budget, maybe look on facebook marketplace or eBay to see if any bargains jump out at you! I’ve linked one here from Amazon which is around the same price as I paid to hire one. You won’t regret it!
- V Pillow – A body pillow or dig out your pregnancy pillow! I have used this day and night since my surgery. It has cushioned me, helped me sit upright and get into a comfortable position in both my recliner and eventually my bed. Absolute best purchase.
- Mastectomy Pillow – there are plenty out there but this one had such a cute pattern, was comfortable across my chest and under my arms. It also had a handy pocket in the front to hold my phone, remote control or book so I didn’t have to move too far to do simple tasks!
- Neck/Travel Pillow – this was so good for posture and for being able to sleep and get comfortable when sitting up/being propped up in bed. I wouldn’t have got as much sleep as I did without this to support my neck.
- Nice Shirts – if you’re like me, you might not want to be in your pjs all the time. It helps to feel fresh and clean and ‘dressed’ even if the chair is the only place I’m going! I had a few shirts which I alternated that I liked and felt comfortable in.

There does seem to be a theme emerging here, and it’s comfort. Anything comfy and supportive was a winner and would be for you too, for any surgery for that matter.
Just remember Comfort is King when recovering from major surgery!
